$600 installed by the Subaru DealerSpacinjasman wrote:jeffsmith wrote:Goodyear Assurance Tripletreads
How much did the Goodyears cost you if you don't mind me asking? Thanks in advance for any response.
Spacinjason
Slightly cheaper than my local GoodYear Dealer
As soon as I got the Baja I went to the GY Dealer
and put the Roadhazard Insurance on them
I could have saved myself the $$
and just used the Potenzas
but I think the change is worth it
& I am very glad I spent the $$
Where I really expect the Tripletreads to Excel
is when I have to drive in Heavy Rain
The AWD and Tread Design combination
should give me great control on wet roads
Not Faster just Better
UPDATE:
I just went out driving in pretty heavy rain
the GY Tripletreads performed as advertised
(as did the AWD Baja)
I did a simulated emergency lane change (or two)
and the car and tires didn't lose traction at all

Interesting. Last year I got a flat just as I arrived to work - going maybe 10 mph. Didn't see anything that I would have run over, but the side-wall was split. So there I was, too, all dressed up and changing a flat in the parking lot.
The tires only had about 20k miles on them. They were the original Potenzas. I wanted to get some more off-roadable tires when I first got the Baja, but the Firestone dealer I went to was of no help.
When I bought a new tire (Discount Tire), I went ahead and shelled out for the road hazard insurance. So if any of the tires fails, they will replace for free.

I just got a quote from my Subaru dealer for the GY Assurance Tripletreads of $500.00 installed. From what I hear that is not a bad deal.
The road hazard insurance, which I bought on everything after the Potenzas, has saved me a lot of money. There is just too much road work/construction going on at the same time and it always seems to be my luck to get something in my tires. Definitely worth the money.

The Potenzas are not a bad tire for moderate/general driving, but they suck when it comes to cornering. I had my Potenzas remounted on the rims so that the blackwalls were facing out (I hate white lettering on a car unless it's a muscle car!). Noticed the next day that my right rear was low. I checked it and it was the core in the valve stem leaking. Easy fix. I will keep the tires on the Baja until they need replacing, but definitely will not replace with the same tire! I also feel that they leave a bit to be desired for wet weather traction. I will probably replace with some Generals as they make a aggressive, all terrain tire that will fit our rigs.

Aggressive Tread and Wet Traction Ability are NOT Always the Same Thing
