has anybody connected the side roll bars with.a top center hoop bar

Post by bheinen74 »

My summer project is going to add a center top roll bar to connect the 2 side bars.
My BRAT has a actual roll bar that goes along the back of the roof line.
Has anyone done this on a BAJA.
watching a few tv shows i see some utes in australai that have one, so going to come up with something for mine.
would just be a simple bar with the righht profile to clamp or bracket bolt to the side bars...
hmmm.
money maker for someone witha. bending jig, and some chrome tube

For what purpose?

Practically, I don't think it'll help much but I'll listen to ideas. They're already tied to the cab for structural rigidity. you don't really need any more rollover protection over the bed, you aren't adding any more hoop material so the overall rollover protection won't change much, you'll probably block the CHMSL, and you'll reduce the openness/capacity of the bed. I suppose it'd help if you were carrying something really tall that you didn't want to tip forward into the cab/CHMSL.

Aesthetically I doubt clamp-on brackets will turn out well and you either go over, under, or block the CHMSL necessitating another on the bar. I'm also having a hard time imagining how it'd look good back there.

basically, I think it's a bad idea but feel free to prove me wrong.

Yea, I'm familiar with them. The other problem you're going to have, aesthetically, is that in those the lateral hoop is the primary component and the rearward supports are just support. In the Bajas, the rearward supports are the primary part and the lateral is the add-on.

You might be better off creating more of a flattened panel extending the roof rearward, imagine the first panel or two of a louvered fast-back.
