Hood supports

Post by mechanic80 »

Another modification: Hood Lift Supports. For this fairly inexpensive mod, I purchased from a well known site (think south american river) a pair of BOXI gas charged lift supports part # BXC300054647-2 (currently unavailable but other makers' are, just match up details: extended length: 19.70, compressed length: 11.75" and force: 65 lbs... close counts!) Four bracketed ball studs, four 3/16 x 1/4" pop rivets, and four 6mm x 1.0 by 10mm long allan head screws. Still under $50.00 including tax and shipping... Remove hood liner. Drill hood bracket holes as shown in relation whatever brackets you get. Drill and tap bracket holes in the rear inner (as viewed from the front) shock tower. I suppose you could rivet those also, but it's harder to get to. Do one at a time checking clearances closing the hood gently. The struts I got allow for a controlled open. Also, the hood needs to be a few degrees on the "less open" position. openinghttp://www.scoobytrhttp://www.scoobytruck.com/ ... ew&id=2083

cool

Not a mod for the rust belt though. It'll work fine for a year but the nice clean threaded holes will turn to gaping rust cancer.

Good point. I'll have to protect those from underneath even if poor weather and road salt isn't an issue.

I used medium strength threadlocker and it seemed to wick through all the threads and the exposed end from below.
