Rear Cargo Light Modifications

Post by SteveNC »

Has anyone modified their rear cargo light or seen any aftermarket lens which would make the rear light a little more useful? I have a hard cover so the the exterior cargo bed light is not very useful. I would like to change the lens and bulbs to something with quite a bit more oomph. Something bright enough to light up a work area, boat launch, campsite, or just to blind the occasional tailgater. It doesn't seem like there are many aftermarket parts available for the Baja.

Simplest thing you could probably do is mount a small LED bar right below the cargo lamp on the plastic trim and splice it into the cargo lamp wire and delete the old halogen sockets or just rewire the cargo lamp switch to this new bar.
Personally I think if you're going to do some light upgrades you might as well go all in and do the crossbar offroad lights (assuming you have those) via roof rack like Ryan (Snorkeled) and others have done- that way you get full coverage.

...okay maybe not THAT much coverage but you get what I mean.

P.S with regards to you other thread about the backup cam, see this thread: www.scoobytruck.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2937&p=17094

I simply put in an LED bulb, worlds of difference.

So dumb question here: How do you remove the cargo light lens? Does it just pop off? Afraid to "experiment" with Baja specific parts. Dennis
P.S. I had never even turned my cargo light on until I read this thread.

Should just come off after you remove the 2 bolts at the bottom holding it in.

Thanks. When I get a chance, I'll have to take it off and see if I have the correct LED bulbs in my stash. If not, I'll pick up a set. Dennis
