Okay, I'll start... Lifting a Brat versus a Baja

Post by pdiz »

Why is it I always see a high-degree of lift on these things (usually with 33-inch tires, etc.)? Do they have axles or something? If not, it seems the same could be done with a Baja, yet it seems everyone's waiting on springs and/or body-lift kids to give us just a few inches.

I had the chance, a while back, to buy a lifted Brat. If I didn't own so many damn cars, I would have bought it in a second.

This isn't it, but:

Hey thats my grille on that Brat! (I'm serious I shipped it to him) It came off my lifted (3 inches) 82 when I re-installed its 3rd eye.

That Blue brat there has a 12 inch lift and a 2.7 liter flat six from the XT6. (ER27)

And to answer why Brats are lifted as opposed to Baja's... the Brat has Dual range, better approach and departure angles and its not a crime to bob 9" off the rear off a $500 brat (yes I did it). Cutting the body up on a new $20,000 Baja... ouch!

My Brat is stock (except the color) but I'm getting a bit of pressure from Tim to lift it 3". I have to say they do look really cute with the tires and all!

The Baja is tall already, I just wish there was more clearance for chubbier tires, these skinny Potenzas are lame, too dressy for the beefy look of the cladding.

The lifted one is owned by a rocket scientist from what I hear (I'm serious!) He built the lift himself too.

http://www.subarubrat.com if any of you arent familiar with his vehicle.

I can't touch my little one, it needs to stay as stock as possible.

Soooo, I got the '86 to modify. We just replaced the bad front body parts and just about have it stripped. I got the paint, Viper red.

I'll add an A-bar, roll bar, jump seats, side steps, lights and 3-4" lift. I found some beautiful seats from a Mercedes that will go in. This one will look like an RC toy.
