Re: Valve Cover Gasket Brands

Are you using RTV where the service manual says to? I've only had any luck with the OEM gaskets, felpros leak way sooner.

Re: Newbie - Headgasket versus Junkyard Swap

I would personally get the engine with less than half the miles, and do all the maintenance on that one before it goes into the car. I'd research the "master gasket kit" that Subaru sells for your particular engine, because it comes with pretty much everything. If cash is tight, you can just have yo...

Re: Lurker that wanted a Baja turbo

A fmic will add lag, every time you stab the throttle, the puny little turbo will have to pressurize 10 feet of 2"+ of pipe. Versus 1.5-2 feet in a tmic. Unless you plan to swap to a large turbo, I vote replace your tmic with the same one.

Source: I have a TD04HLA with a FMIC.

Re: Late Baja

Actually, it's totally possible. I posted the exact # of vins issued according to Subaru's dealer parts software (FAST II). Assuming the vins are issued in chronological order per year, you could a see where your car stacks up. All you need to do is download FAST II, download a free hex editor progr...

Re: New member with "new" Baja

I get between 1-2 mpg less without the deflector, when driving all highway. But I calculate my MPG's every pit stop. If you do exclusively in town driving, I'm with you, there's no benefit.

Re: New member with "new" Baja

Hi, you want to keep that plastic lower guard on for aerodynamic reasons. Your MPGs will take a noticeable hit without it. If you really want to keep an OEM stereo in there, you can use newer ones as long as they use the same plug. Subaru kept the plug the same for many years, but in recent (not sur...

Re: 06 struts

The outback struts are shorter, so if you want to do those you really should replace all 4 struts so your car isn't "raked" and handles differently (worse).

You can still get struts through the dealer last time I checked. Not as expensive as you'd think.

Got the 4 pots in... Also, with these stock Baja wheels, you don't need the spacers! Huzzah!
That's too cool. I have the 5-spoke wheels, any idea if those clear the 4pots too?

Re: Perhaps a rather silly brake pad question

I hadn't heard that the Baja wheels clear the 4 pots fronts with no spacers, that is definitely good info to have!

Re: Perhaps a rather silly brake pad question

I ordered: DP31200C DP3826C for the front and rear, respectively. These are for 2006/2007 USDM WRX, among other cars using those brakes. I have ran a set of these on my turbo cars for years, they are great and look really good. But... I also have a set of conventional WRX Brakes (2002-2005) fronts, ...

Re: Automatic Outback Engine Swap.

I didn't catch that the donor was an outback XT. That's a different generation of electronics, the 4th gens had Canbus.

I'm positive you'll need to swap intake manifolds and all sensors, and the turbo. Unsure about the timing, I suspect that's the same.

No, the auto ecu will freak out if it doesn't detect the auto's TCU. Just run the manual ecu.
