Re: Rust!!!!

When the jack points have rusted you just gotta get creative and make sure you don't spend much time underneath. Remember to spread the load. Rust is like an iceberg, what you can see is just the tip. If it's as bad as it sounds, you'll be better off in the long run to just replace the car. Luckily ...

Re: What did you do to your Baja today?

Not today but this weekend: fired up the 05 turbo after refreshing it a bit(gaskets & O-rings and a few other bits) and some light mods. Runs good only 1 oil leak (one of the o-rings in the oil cooler/filter stack). Now on to the fun part: tuning for mods! already have a VF39 and STI ECU, this was m...

Re: Rear end noise 2005 Baja Turbo MT

If it's just the dust shield, that'd be nice. You have a viscous LSD, it provides more resistance as the difference in wheel speed increases. wheels off the ground, it will try to prevent the wheels on that axle from spinning separately. there's another viscous LSD in the center diff so with all 4 w...

Re: 2006 Baja Turbo issue: Replace turbo or replace engine

some of those codes are exclusive (131 and 171 are from separate times, if 131's set 171 won't because one is bad circuit and one is reading a certain way... no reading if there's a circuit problem). p0011 is for the cam signal which could be related to the turbo in that both are fed from the same o...

Re: FS 2006 pair of headlight housings no cracks very good condition

FWIW, an add at the bottom of this page shows me a brand new set for $97. [smilie=blush.gif] oh the irony THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING! My wife sometimes gets frustrated and asks (at high volume) why I always have to be right. My answer is that it's not that I have to be, I just am. Don't get me wrong, I...

Re: FS 2006 pair of headlight housings no cracks very good condition

No, I put it in a PM to be polite rather than argue price in your FS thread with no intention of purchasing thus affecting the sale of your parts. that would be an a**. I'm blunt and literal. I recognize that what I said could be taken as maligning you but I'm not a diplomat to word it gently so I s...

Depending on the distance and speed, the sky's the limit: https://www.autotrader.com/car-news/toy ... vor-193574 <5mph for 5 mins, closed roads, etc.

O2 sensors are a standard size, not a lot of options.

Have you followed the troubleshooting flowchart from Subaru in the FSM?

Re: Real life towing capacity

For liability reasons, I won't advocate passing the towing capacity of any vehicle. (automatics: 1k, manual: 2k, manual w/ trailer brakes: 2.4k) That being said, I have a few times. There are a lot of things that factor into it: tongue load, balance, height of the CG, vehicle dynamics, suspension of...

Re: 05 Baja

Just bought an 05 Baja with 112,000 miles. I want to start going thru it on safety items first. I'm thinking brakes, shocks, belts etc. Can anyone tell me if there are certain things this model had trouble with around this mileage that I might want to check out first? The correct answer - based on ...

Re: 05 Baja

As both a mechanic and an info-cow: Guac has it down pretty well except I will expand on some: regarding the banjo bolt filter... this is a secondary contributor to the failures of the turbos. I say that because there are other root causes that lead to gunk in the oil that the filter catches, after ...

Re: Member's Journal - The Bike Buggy thread

cool beans. FYI the M&S rating has absolutely no performance measure. it simply means that 20 or 25% of the surface of the tire is grooves (ie not touching the road) thus it's quite possible to have a non M&S rated tire to perform better on snow and ice than a M&S rated tire. Being in Texas, I don't...

Re: 05 Baja turbo shortblock

outback suspension will drop the baja a few inches

probably that both have the tiptronic or sport-shift mode automatics. I really hate that those were ever invented.

I would have never thought of dropping it out the bottom without a lift anyway. I have done so (not on a subie though) before though.
