Re: Overheated Right Rear Wheel and Brake Disc

I was going to guess sticking rear brake caliper - parking brake being set would cause the caliper to close. Brake caliper being stuck would cause it not re-open once you release the parking brake. The brake pads will begin to overheat (and smell) as it remains clamped to the rotor. Very common iss...

Re: Hoping for some Baja clarification

P1035 is for the sensor heater circuit . While this could certainly be the sensor itself, it could also easily be the wiring. You'd need to (with the key-on-engine-off) backprobe the O2s plug (O2s side of the plug) and check for 12v on the hot side and ground on the other side. If you see less than ...

Re: 2006 Baja Sport

ANY soft goods on a car (like the timing belt and axle boots) have a time component as well. the rubber breaks down over time and becomes weaker. That's why they have two intervals to watch out for: mileage (105k) and time (6-10 years, I don't recall). I would not plan on 40k trouble-free miles befo...

BTW, it's small and stupid but hasn't been mentioned yet, forget the "13mm square drive". Just get a regular old 1/2" ratchet and extension lol

Re: Very Specific Misfire Issue

Yes, I initially thought, too, that maybe I got someone's old coil pack. However I feel good as there was a Duralast "D" embedded (not a sticker) in the resin on the bottom of the pack, so I hope that is a good indicator... Thanks for the info on the cruise control, but since my Baja is a Normally ...

You didn't take it while driving! Don't you know you're only supposed to photo your dash while you're doing at least 80mph in heavy traffic (and include both factors in the pic).

Re: Very Specific Misfire Issue

I wouldn't get to excited over the coil pack until you thoroughly look it over for any sign of prior use. Having worked at a parts store employee, I pissed off a few customers by actually checking the box they returned that the parts were ours and unused and the contents were not: customers trying t...

Re: 2005 Turbo Baja (automatic) keeps throwing a P0638 code

Here's the 05 FSM for Engine Diagnostics. The p0638 code procedure is on pages 403-410. http://jdmfsm.info/Auto/Japan/Subaru/Baja/2005/USDM%20Legacy%20FSM%202005%20(BT%20Baja%20only)/3%20ENGINE%202%20SECTION/ENGINE%20DIAGNOSTICS%20ENH4DOTC/18.%20Diagnostic%20Procedure%20with%20Diagnostic%20Trouble%...

Re: 2005 Turbo Baja (automatic) keeps throwing a P0638 code

P0638 means the E-throttle isn't working properly. When any problem is detected, to reduce the changes of something going wrong at more than minimal throttle, the ECM goes into failsafe mode and cuts power to the E-throttle and it reverts, under spring pressure, to about 5% open (1500rpm?) and the E...

Re: What to look for in my first Baja?

Actaully, having dark blue subaru coolant could just as well be a sign that it HASN'T been maintained and still has the original stuff in it topped off with who knows what. Remember the salespeople will tell you anything, unless there's a receipt in hand with the VIN on it, don't believe them. I wou...

Re: Subaru Baja MPG thread

21mpg consistently on my 03 manual. How the heck are you guys getting more? Tires brand new, I run 87 and drive pretty tame. I have no issues I know of, runs like a top. Maybe a tune up? If you're doing exclusively city driving then that's normal. If mostly rural driving, definitely get it checked ...

Re: Rust!!!!

When the jack points have rusted you just gotta get creative and make sure you don't spend much time underneath. Remember to spread the load. Rust is like an iceberg, what you can see is just the tip. If it's as bad as it sounds, you'll be better off in the long run to just replace the car. Luckily ...

Re: What did you do to your Baja today?

Not today but this weekend: fired up the 05 turbo after refreshing it a bit(gaskets & O-rings and a few other bits) and some light mods. Runs good only 1 oil leak (one of the o-rings in the oil cooler/filter stack). Now on to the fun part: tuning for mods! already have a VF39 and STI ECU, this was m...

Re: Rear end noise 2005 Baja Turbo MT

If it's just the dust shield, that'd be nice. You have a viscous LSD, it provides more resistance as the difference in wheel speed increases. wheels off the ground, it will try to prevent the wheels on that axle from spinning separately. there's another viscous LSD in the center diff so with all 4 w...

Re: 2006 Baja Turbo issue: Replace turbo or replace engine

some of those codes are exclusive (131 and 171 are from separate times, if 131's set 171 won't because one is bad circuit and one is reading a certain way... no reading if there's a circuit problem). p0011 is for the cam signal which could be related to the turbo in that both are fed from the same o...
